Highworth and District Lions take OAPs to Weston-super-Mare 2025

For all of our OAPs, the annual outing to the seaside has become the highlight of the year, providing an opportunity to meet friends, make new memories, and enjoy a change of scenery.

Barnes Coaches arrived on time at Newburg Place where everyone boarded and set off for the day.

Upon arriving in Weston-super-Mare, we were greeted by sunshine and a refreshing sea breeze. Some of our group choose to stroll along the famous Grand Pier, taking in the views across the Bristol Channel, while others relaxed on the promenade with a cup of tea or an ice cream. Many participants enjoyed browsing the local shops and arcades, bringing back happy memories of family holidays from years gone by.

For lunch a traditional fish and chip lunch proved very popular, with plenty of smiles around the tables as friends shared stories and laughter.

The afternoon offered more opportunities for sightseeing, with some members taking a ride on the land train and others simply enjoying the sights and sounds of the bustling seafront.

As the day drew to a close everyone was appreciative of the Lions keeping them comfortable throughout the day, providing assistance where it’s needed and helping create a welcoming atmosphere.

On the trip home we staged the much anticipated raffle handing out around 20 prizes. For the rest of journey, passengers chatted happily about their favourite moments while others have a well deserved snooze.

Thanks to the dedication of Lions - volunteers and the support of local donors, the annual Weston-super-Mare outing continues to provide joy, companionship, and lasting memories for older residents year after year.
