Defibrillator deployment across Highworth Town

Highworth Lions and Highworth Town Council have partnered to create a growing network of 24/7 public access defibrillators across the town. The Lions lead fundraising and purchase of a number of units in key locations, while the Council covers ongoing maintenance helps identify strategic locations, supports installation, registers devices with the ambulance service, and promotes awareness. Units are placed in visible, high-footfall spots (village centre, sports grounds, schools, community buildings) in weatherproof cabinets, all voice-guided and safe for untrained users — ensuring rapid response for cardiac emergencies.

Christmas vouchers for the elderly

Every festive season, Highworth Lions continues a much-valued tradition of supporting elderly residents across the local area. Using funds raised throughout the year from community events, collections, and donations, the club provides Christmas vouchers to those who may be lonely, on low incomes, or facing financial hardship.
Working closely with local churches, care providers, and community groups, the Lions identify those most in need, ensuring help reaches the right people. Volunteers often deliver the vouchers personally, taking time to chat and share festive greetings. This simple visit means as much as the financial support itself—it helps combat isolation and makes people feel remembered and cared for.
The vouchers can be used to buy food, warm clothing, or small treats, bringing a little extra comfort and joy at a time of year when many feel the cold most. This initiative reflects the Lions’ core motto, “We Serve”, turning local generosity into practical help and showing the elderly members of our community that they are valued and not forgotten.
You are very welcome to apply for a voucher; the application form can be found below.

Supporting local people across our community

At Highworth and District Lions, we believe in supporting local people across our community. From short trips around the town using our minibus, to annual outings to the seaside, we aim to make every journey enjoyable and ensure groups reach their destination without worry or stress.
Our biggest event of the year is the annual OAP seaside outing, which gives people the chance to meet friends, make new memories, and enjoy a change of scenery. Our most popular destination is Weston super Mare, where we travel comfortably with Barnes Coaches. Many participants enjoy browsing local shops and arcades, recalling happy memories of family holidays from years gone by.
Locally, we provide free transport to many groups. Our regular users include Forget-Me-Not, the Lunch Together group organised by the WI, Parsonage Court shopping trips, and St Lawrence School swimming trips. We often receive requests for day trips from local clubs and organisations, as well as many short ad hoc trips for groups such as Highworth Bowls Club, Root & Branch, and the Mayor’s Charity event.
Whether it is a late return from a dinner and dance, a club lunch, or a small group day trip, the Lions minibus is always available and ready to help.
