Highworth Town Council

The partnership between Highworth Lions and Highworth Town Council stands as a fine example of community collaboration at its best. Working hand in hand, the two organisations combine the Lions’ long-standing tradition of service, fundraising, and volunteer spirit with the Council’s local knowledge, resources, and commitment to improving life in Highworth. Together, they support a wide range of initiatives—from organising popular local events and maintaining public spaces to providing practical help for residents in need and funding community projects. This strong, cooperative relationship ensures that Highworth remains a welcoming, vibrant place to live, where collective effort makes a real difference for everyone.

CHAPS charity

Highworth Lions has teamed up with CHAPS (The Men’s Health Charity) to provide accessible prostate cancer testing and awareness in Highworth. This partnership aims to make early detection easier for local men, offering confidential testing sessions alongside clear information about risks, symptoms, and support.

Founded in 2000, by Professor Chris Booth, a retired Urological Surgeon, CHAPS is a registered charity dedicated to advocacy for men's health in general and prostate cancer in particular to ensure men have the knowledge and resources needed to live longer and healthier lives.

CHAPS in turn partner with Sirkka Health who have a national network of mobile phlebotomists providing the testing kits for blood samples, expert briefings and next day laboratory analysis.

Lions clubs collaborating together

When more than one Lions club comes together, the results are truly remarkable. It creates opportunities to learn new things, collaborate on projects, and extend those projects’ reach into wider communities.

This year, the Highworth and Lechlade clubs successfully joined forces to provide prostate cancer screening to a broader group of men. The service area went beyond Highworth and Lechlade to include surrounding locations: Blunsdon, Shrivenham, Faringdon, and Fairford.

Most recently, the Lechlade club has been supporting Highworth in setting up programmes with local schools, and the two have also assisted each other with access to minibus and van availability.

Swindon 105.5

Highworth and District Lions appreciate the unique concept of SWINDON 105.5. A volunteer-led organisation where individuals of all ages and abilities can learn new skills or share their knowledge and experience with others, providing a unique, award-winning radio service. Through their Saturday sessions they inspire confidence in youngsters and disadvantaged children with training and support in technical, storytelling, interviewing, recording, editing and broadcasting. The Station provides diverse and open access to the citizens of Swindon and surrounding areas

The station also supports the Highworth Lions through focused interviews broadcast on the station and in return, we have funded certain aspects of the station in the development of the younger generation.
